Located in downtown Taipei, Ganna Studio an 40+ years old apartment at 1 floor. It is not merely an interior design studio but the cozy sweet home for two designers. To preserve the beauty of old days, the two designers decided to renovate without changing the original building structure. Practical function and visual beauty are the main concerns. Lin and Chen combined European classic style with pop style furniture, used gray as base hue and collocated black chandelier, wooden pattern table. This allocation can balance the colors and emphasize the existence of furniture, making each objects can be the leading role in the space.
The garden outside has been carefully considered, making people indoors can enjoy serene atmosphere in crowded city. Dining table, kitchen, and bar are placed beside the windows, so people in everywhere can enjoy the view and sunlight. The revolving panels can serve as a partition between meeting room and the working area when they’re closed. In back of working area is the bedroom. Glass as wall provides the users sense of safety rather than sense of oppression.

The left side of the lobby is a L-shape kitchen island. The designer deliberately extends the island to the column in order to connect different areas. The right hand of the lobby was planned to place the long bench, which extends from the lobby to the house. The width of the bench is 80 centimeters. Accordingly, the bench back of the lobby can be used as a temporary bed for guests. Besides, under the bench can store stuff.
Turn left from the lobby can see the long table which combines the dining table and study table together. On one hand, this long table extends the visual feeling of the whole space. On the other hand, it can provide enough seats if there are some visitors. The length of this table is 440 centimeters, an enough comfortable distance even the couple wants to stay here at the same time. Next to the long table is the display cabinet. Here displays a lot of toys, miniatures and souvenirs collected by the host and hostess. In front of the long table is placed a sofa, which connects the dining area and the living room. Certainly here is the main area for the users in leisure time or on the weekends.
The main wall on which inlays TV separates master bedroom and the living room. The designers arrange two traffic lines to enter the master bedroom. People can selectively open each door depending on their needs. Handles on the closet in master bedroom are shape with round, rectangle. One of the largest rounds is designed as a button. Those handles are not only the visual points in the room but also the clothes stand outside the closets. Furthermore, inside the closet have cosmetic mirror and dressing table. The hostess can conveniently use the space while the doors of closet opened. This design gives consideration to both function and beauty.

To break through the stereotype of the style used in commercial space, the designer tries to build a casual and unrestricted environment with aesthetic perception for the customers. Wooden is the main material to warm up the cold feeling of public commercial space. Besides, the coherence of the style between different corners, and the accommodation of customers are considered at the same time. As for the floor, maintenance and the cleanness are the points of the proprietor. What’s more, artistic collection and the lighting are all carefully chosen in order to create a comfortable environment for everyone in this restaurant.

The designer introduces the bench into the house. The bench elongates from the door to elevated area. Black object is shoes cabinet. The slope guides visitors into the living room. The designers tear down the wall of one room, and exchange the place of living area and study room (elevated platform now). Therefore, the users can make the best of use the view and natural illumination, have a coffee or chat together in the elevated area.
Next to the elevated area is the living room. The designers use marble wall to partition living room and dining area. Marble itself can present the beauty of purify even without any process.。Furthermore, except for the space for DVD player, there is no other decorations on this main wall in avoid distracting the users from watching television. The width of the TV wall is would not block the view and natural illumination from outside.
The second main wall is the glass cabinet. The function of storage and display is required, so the designers need to figure out a way to combine them together. Then, an idea comes up with the designers’ mind that different glasses can satisfy this requirement. Frosted glass can remove clutter visual feeling, and clear glass is inductive to display collection. On the other hand, sapphire pendent light and round dining table were chose in order to soften the stiffer visual effect brought by rectangular glass cabinet. Also, round table is easy to move, increasing the flexibility of mobility.
Regarding to the lighting, instead of using embedded light, the designer uses wall fitting light to make the aisle looks like a lateral in art gallery. The residents in the house can, hence, live in simple but elegant environment.

Generally, life moves at such a rapid pace that we overlook the beauty observed by slowing down. It is the acknowledgment of this fact that has informed the layout and design decisions in our Valentine House.
Firstly, the house is linear which creates an engagement with journey; Secondly, there are ‘in-between’ spaces that offer specific views promising a dialog with the day. Each one of these locations are different in terms of what they look too. It might be focused or it might offer a panorama. It might be towards sky or to earth.
Through these simple acts architecture can transform from a space of habitation into an informer of environment. For example, where the breeze comes from, how light tells time and what natural comfort feels like in differing time frames – minute to hour and day to year.
As the architect Richard Leplastrier once said, ‘One can look but not see. Observation is different. Observation is considered looking, or measured looking, which draws an appropriate conclusion.’
It is only through the deliberate actions inherit in a plan that one can experience the joy of observation without distraction.

The clients, a wonderful elderly couple in their 70’s, were after a peaceful home on one level that embraces view and combines with the practicalities one would expect in classic farm homesteads.
With an emphasis on practicality and simplicity, we looked to break the plan down into a series of ordered spaces where each pavilion depicts its use. Utility – Public – Private.
One therefore experiences the plan as journey. This allows for a natural progression of arrival – greet – engage – retreat. We call this, ‘Divided Spatial Ergonomics’. The budget, $ 350k.
